Pandora Papers to open Pandoras Box
Pandora Papers to open Pandoras Box at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, a new investigation into international finance and tax havens by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) will be released to the public.
It is estimated that 600 ICIJ journalists in 117 countries spent months studying approximately 11.9 million documents that were leaked from the offshore environment to produce the “Pandora Papers,” the ICIJ’s major investigation. There is a race against time as the names of several Pakistanis have surfaced on the infamous Pandora’s Box.
The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) announced late on Saturday that it would publish its “most comprehensive exposé of financial secrecy yet.” After ICIJ released the Panama Papers in 2016, the world was rocked, and several governments, including Nawaz Sharif’s, fell as a result.
According to journalist Umar Cheema, who was part of the ICIJ team that investigated the Pandora Papers, the names of several Pakistanis were found in the documents. He also said that the public should wait until October 3rd to see the report’s findings today.
In the Pandora Papers, there are more people named than in the Panama Papers, according to Cheema. “The names are kind of interesting,” he continued, “but you will have to wait another 24 hours. This project took two years to complete, according to him.
A major international financial investigation, which Cheema described as the largest one yet, has come to an end, he wrote in a Twitter post. Analysts noted that it will be interesting to see how the government, judiciary, and media react this time around. They were quick to add that
Researchers expect that the massive investigation into the financial world’s hidden secrets will shed light on how some of the world’s wealthy hid their wealth and avoided paying taxes to the government. More than 11.5 million financial and legal records were leaked in the Panama Papers, revealing a system that allows for crime, corruption, and other wrongdoing to go unpunished because of secretive offshore companies.
The Pandora Papers project takes its name from the Greek mythological character Pandora, whose box contained all of humanity’s woes. The Pandora Papers are expected to open a new Pandora’s box, one that could lead to the fall of several world capitals and well-known figures.
The Pandora Papers, according to reports, are the result of a massive new leak of financial data that reveals how the global elite use secret companies to transfer money to tax havens. As reported, hundreds of former and current world leaders will be found to have avoided paying their fair share of taxes.
